Rerun elections: INEC documents details disqualified parties, othersRerun elections


THE document released by the Inde­pendent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the rerun elections holding in 16 states have given details of politi­cal parties that will participate in the ex­ercise.
A public notice signed by Mrs. Au­gusta C. Ogakwu, secretary to INEC, indicated that some political parties would not participate in the election in some states. Rerun elections are holding in Abia, Anambra, Gombe Adamawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers states between January 27, 2016 and March 19, 2016.
In Abia State, the Annexure B of the INEC notice, under “political parties/ candidates,” said participant in the Abia North are: “Same parties and candidates excluding APGA and its candidate.”
For Demsa/Numan/Lamuurde, in Ad­amawa State, the INEC document said: “Same parties and candidate excluding SDP and its candidate.”
The INEC document said political parties/candidates to participate in the rerun in Anambra Central rerun are: “Same parties and candidates excluding PDP and its candidates.”
In Lere West, in Kadiuna State, the document said participants are “same parties and candidates except APC to present present new candidate.” In Kogi Central Senatorial District and Kogi East Senatorial, in Kogi State, it said the participants are “same parties and candidates excluding APC and its can­didates.”
Also in Okene/Ogeri Magongo, Opu and Ankpa 1, in Kogi State, INEC said the participants are “same parties and candidates excluding APC and its candidate.”
In Suleja State Constituency, in Niger State, the participants are “same parties and candi­dates excluding APC and its candidate.”
In Lantang South, In Plateau, INEC said the participants are “same parties and candidates excluding PDP and its candidate.”
In Rivers West, Rivers South West and Riv­ers East senatorial districts, the INEC docu­ments said the participants are” same parties and candidates.
The public notice by INEC released on Tuesday said: “Following consultations with major stakeholders in the electoral process and public interest in the subject, the Indepen­dent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at its meeting held on Monday, 1st January 2016 considered and approved dates for the conduct of elections as ordered by the Court of Appeal as follows: January 2: Gombe; Feb­ruary 13: Adamawa; February 20: Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Benue, Nasaraw and Imo; March 5: Abia, Anambra and Bayelsa; Martch 12: Aklwa Ibom and Cross Rivers and March 19: Rivers.
“Consequent upon the judgments of the kurt, the commission will conduct the elec­tions in 69 of the state constituencies with the same political parties and their respective can­didates, who participated in the annulled elec­tions as per the attached Annexure A.


“the commission further gives notice that the political parties and candidatures entitled to participate in the elections in the other 11 constituencies are as per Annexure B at­tached.”
