Delta House probes N23b comatose power project

WITH a whopping N19 billion down the drain after almost seven years of construction work, the comatose state of the Delta State Independent Power Plant (1PP) project at Oghara, Ethiope West Local Council of the state yesterday drew the ire of the state lawmakers during a visit to the site.
The five-member ad hoc committee investigating the N23.2 billion project vowed to probe all concerned parties with a view to ensuring its completion for the benefit of the people.
Except for the access road to the site, it was clear yesterday during the tour that there was nothing on ground to show for the huge money spent so far on the multi-billion power facility awarded by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in June 2009 to generate 128 megawatt of electricity.
Team leader/Majority Leader of the House, Tim Owefere, fumed: “I am sure that even blind people who managed to find their way here will know that nothing has been done here. May be the contractor will be able to convince us. What we see here today leaves much to be desired. This is just the beginning of our investigation.”
