In spite of the new fuel price regime of N86.50 announced by the Federal Government last year, the pump price for premium motor spirit (PMS) remains at N150 per litre in Imo State.
Motorists in the state have accused the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) of shirking its responsibility to implement the new price regime.
They further alleged that DPR officials were collaborating with independent petroleum marketers to fleece them with retention of the high price of fuel.
When Daily Sun visited some of the stations in Owerri metropolis, it was discovered that while the major stations had readjusted their pump price to N86.50k, their attendants still insist on selling a litre at N150.
At Forte Oil station, along Okigwe Road, although the meter read N86.50k, surprisingly, the attendant insisted on selling at N150. The same scenario happened at OANDO, IKOROMI, EBERE LINKS, and TOTAL.
However, NNPC Mega station, along the Owerri/ Onitsha Road was selling at the regulated price but there was a long queue of vehicles which stretched for over two kilometres.
However, when contacted, the DPR zonal coordinator in the state, Mr. Innocent Akpamgbo, said he had been on holiday and did not know what was going on.
“I have been away on holiday but, when I come back my boys will tell me what is on ground,” he said.
