Rivers: Many feared dead, as sea pirates attack 3 passenger boats
Unconfirmed number of people were killed yesterday, when suspected sea pirates attacked three passenger boats along Kula waterways, in Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
It was gathered that the sea pirates ordered the passengers to jump into the river before they made away with their belongings.
Kula Community Development Committee Chairman, Mr. Lulu Awara, said the speed boats were conveying passengers from Kula to Abonnema in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of the state before the attack.
He confirmed that the incident had led to the death of many passengers who could not swim, adding that they have not been able to confirm the number of deaths so far.
He expressed worry that the federal, state and local governments have not done anything to tackle incessant sea pirates’ attacks along the Kula waterways.
Reacting to the attack, a security expert, Colonel Chinedu Owonda (retd) said lack of synergy among security agencies would lead to increase in criminality in the state. Rivers: Many fear/sd
