Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors gets first female president

The 26th biennial conference and general meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors was a five-day during which the professional body x-rayed the theme “Politics, Policies and National Development – The Role of Professionals”.
The event, which held recently at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, ushered in Mercy Torkwase Iyortyer (FNIQS) as the 23rd and first ever female president of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors and the inauguration of the National Executive Council.
Ms. Iyortyer took over from the immediate past president, Murtala Aliyu, who successfully piloted the affairs of the Institute in the last two years.
In a seemingly male-dominated profession, the emergence of the first female president reflects the all-encompassing, robustness and the level playing field at the Institute.
As the new president and National Executive Council members take over the mantle of leadership, hopes and aspirations are high that the Institute is set to soar to even greater heights.
Her investiture on Saturday had in attendance the Governor of Benue State (her home state), Samuel Orton, as special guest of honour.
