RETHINKING BIAFRA.

In 2003 as a Political detainee under the Olusegun Obasanjo era I had the privilege of talking to some Movement For The Sovereign State of Biafra MASSOB detainees who were ferried to Abuja from the States of Imo and Anambra. To the present agitation by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, those words come alive.

We must be careful to elevate our protest beyond the confines of revenge and revanchism. The MASSOB fervency between 1999-2007 was a protest to an Igbo Presidential Candidate loosing the PDP Presidential ticket to Obasanjo and by Jove the Presidency. Today, it returns as a revenge for Jonathan's electoral defeat? Remember that most of my Ibo brothers supported GEJ.

Had Jonathan won reelection would Nigeria be deemed suitable for us? We must think through what protestations and agitation we endorse. Instead of threatening Nigeria, may we focus on building bridges of trust, love and harmony, that way an Ibo-man can be President sooner than later.

We have made every part of Nigeria our home because the preponderant Ibo population believes in one Nigeria, may we therefore convert the deafening minority to the truism that 'we are stronger and better in one Nigeria'.

Agreed that legislation on true Federalism, resource control and devolution of power is imperative for national growth and prosperity, such can and must be done without conflict and without the threat of war, and or disintegration.

God Bless Nigeria.
