And for many years, I have been deeply concerned as the number of Children on the Streets keep increasing steadily and the future of our country continue to suffer. These Children are not only vulnerable but also becoming more and more exposed to vices and social harms. They lack basic needs, have health issues and are exposed to illicit sex and communicable diseases. They get involved in several unlawful crimes which made them victimised by the police and public. The girls are often used as prostitutes while the boys as thugs in the quest by unscrupulous to fulfil political ambitions.
After many researches, visits to selected Children Centres and the Streets, I am dedicating myself to the cause of providing Support through Campaign and other activities to these Street Children. The issue of Street Children is a persistent and menacing problem which everyone must endeavour to join hands to resolve. It was for this reason that my birthday, 29th September saw the unveiling of the support programme. The society need this initiative at this period of our history as our our our to be in partnership with government rehabilitation/correctional centres.
It is a commitment mission of getting children off the streets as we would like to see our children in schools and not on the streets.
There will be a Campaign on October 24th which seeks to foster awareness by educating the public on the existence of these kids and what could be done to take them off the streets and put in government provided centres.
