POLL: IF YOUR PARTNER DISOWNS YOU DURING A LIVE REALITY TV SHOW BUT ENDS UP WINNING, WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Hey guys!!! Last week, we asked: If your religious leader tells you your partner isn’t yours, what will you do? 61% said they’d ask him to show working with diagrams and graph but what surprised me is the fact that 22% were undecided which pretty much means, they would probably consider canceling the wedding. We need to dig deeper into this. And the comments were hilarious, make sure you check it out if you missed it.

People that know me and know me really well know my absurd love for reality shows especially the ones where there is a prize to be won at the end, usually a ridiculously large amount. I’m so passionate about it to the extent that I sometimes cry when my preferred contestant does not win. I do not fancy myself a competitive person like that so I get my dose of a competitive spirit through these shows. I’m the type to steal my parents and siblings phones to vote, I’m the type to wake a friend up at midnight to gist about the show and its contestants then wake up for work at 5am feeling refreshed like I slept eight hours complete, I’m the type to travel miles just to watch it when there’s a power cut in my home. Hold your thoughts on this please, I’m already seeking help. Reality shows is my cocaine.
My obsession with reality shows is not limited to Big Brother Africa (as I’m sure yall would have guessed) but I absolutely love game shows and music talent shows as well. During my weekly rounds of reality shows last week, I stumbled on a particular one called moment of truth. Basically, a contestant is put on a hot seat and is asked all sort of personal questions. A lie detector is connected to this contestant to ascertain whether his/her answers are true. The contestant has the option of not answering the question but the amount of money that could be won by answering a question is very enticing. On the stage with the contestant are members of family comprising of spouse, parents or sibling and sometimes, his/her best friend or colleague at work. Some of the questions asked could be on past relations and infidelity, work ethics, family issues etc. The look of shock on the faces of the people affected by the answer to the question is the most entertaining thing ever.
I have always imagined these reality game shows in Nigeria and I have heard countless responses regarding the possibility. People are always like for that amount of money they give at these game shows, they will do anything. I agree that a lot of us are hustlers here; it’s almost as if that hustling spirit is in our DNA but having this hustling and competitive spirit does not make you less human. There should be an extent to the length which you’d go to make such money (usually between $100 000 – $1000000) on live TV. I remember a contestant in one of the seasons of Big Brother Africa that cheated seriously on his wife during the show, even denying her at some point. He later won and last I heard there are still very married.
To today’s poll, if your partner goes on a reality tv show and embarrasses you seriously and thereafter wins big at the end of the day, what will you do?
