It seems the new armed militant group in Nigeria's Niger
Delta backwaters, known as Niger Delta Avengers, are becoming more deadly than
expected with their recent bombings of oil companies' facilities in the
region. In the spate of weeks, the militant group had bombed five major facilities belonging to different oil companies.
The latest bombing was done at the early hour of today,
destroying the main pipeline that supplies gas that provides electricity to the
Escravos tank farm in Delta state owned by Chevron.
In a tweet sent via
its Twitter handle, @NDAvengers, the
armed militant group, said the latest action was carried out after Chevron
ignored its May 12 warning not to fix a major crude pipeline blown up by the
group early in the month.
Minister of state for Petroleum Ibe Kachikwu and Information
Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed had said the Federal Government will dialogue
with the armed militant group to resolve the issue once and for all. The
Nigerian government had unleashed its military force on the militant group but
it has not yield any good result as the military suffered casualties in recent
times.
