GIWA FC have been expelled from the Nigeria Football Professional League(NPFL) after they stayed away from a third game yesterday in Ilorin.

Acccording to the rules of the Nigeria league, any club that fail to honour three fixtures in a season risk expulsion from the competition. Enyimba walked over the Jos club in Ilorin yesterday afternoon to bring to three the number of matches Giwa have failed to honour so far this season without any acceptable reason.

Wikki Torurists and Akwa United also walked over Giwa in Ilorin, where the Jos club were banished to following crowd trouble during a home game against Enugu Rangers recently. Last week, the League Management Company formally cautioned Giwa they risked expulsion from the league. The LMC referred to Rule 13.28 which states as follows,” if a club fails to honour three matches cumulatively within the league season without acceptable reason to the LMC, such a club shall be expelled from the League and its matches, played and not played shall be cancelled”. It is now left for the league to enforce this regulation.

Meanwhile the Jos Elephants have made a U-turn and agreed to play their Matchday 18 game against Enyimba that was slated for Ilorin yesterday afternoon. However, they have asked that the game be rescheduled despite Enyimba already waiting for them in Ilorin. A statement from the club on Wednesday afternoon showed that they want to remain in the league while asking for the LMC to review the circumstances leading to their recent travails. “Giwa FC has written to inform the League Management Company (LMC) that it has accepted to play its match with Enyimba,” said a statement from media officer David King.
