SOME recipients considered unworthy are to be stripped of their National Honours in line with the administration’s anti-graft campaign, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, said yesterday.
He spoke at the inauguration of a reconstituted Committee on National Honours Award in Abuja.
The 14 members of the reconstituted Committee include: Justice Mohammed Alfa Belgore (retd) – chairman; Justice Umaru Kalgo, Justice Isaac Aluyi and Mrs. Bola Ogunriade.
Others are Nnema Josephine Ndukwu, Usman Gaji Galtimari, Chief Bassey Edem, Gabriel Afu, Nonye Udo, Mr. M. F. Abikoye, Mr. Y. M. Bichi, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, Mr. James A. Ibidapo and Mr. Gabriel Loto, secretary.
Lawal said the national award had two purposes – to recognise and honour citizens and friends of Nigeria, who distinguished themselves and contributed to development; and to serve as motivation for Nigerians to emulate those honoured and inspire them for national recognition.
