APC urges Wike to speak up over apex court victory
AGAINST the backdrop of public and media criticisms of the rulings, orders and judgments of the Supreme Court, octogenarian lawyer and coordinator of the Movement for the Abolition of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (MARSAN), Pa Tunji Gomez has taken a swipe at the ‘distasteful behaviours’ of some Senior Advocates of Nigeria and others.
Gomez, who stated this in Lagos at a press briefing, added that such action of the senior advocates, apart from being self-aggrandizing and belittles the profession, it also borders on contempt, most especially when that order or judgment is on an interlocutory application.
“Such actions from SANs in criticizing the judges of the Supreme Court publicly has now been emulated by every Tom, Dick and Harry, who without even the knowledge of the law are now berating court decisions and have the effrontery to ask that a judge be probed because he gave a judgment against them,” he said.
Meanwhile, in one of such apex court’s decisions, the Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Governor Nyesom Wike to come clean on the rumours surrounding his governorship victory.
Chairman of the Rivers State APC, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, who said this in a statement made available to The Guardian, asked Wike to address key issues he raised in his public confessions of how he won at the court.
The APC chieftain was reacting to a statement allegedly made by the governor at the thanksgiving service to mark his victory.
According to Ikanya, “Wike told the world on live television that he got his victory because former governor Dr. Peter Odili directed him on who to meet and what to do.
Ikanya, who wondered what kind of advice, challenged Wike to explain to the world those who Odili directed him to meet and where he advised him to go that resulted in his victory at the court.
