THE Assistant Inspector General Of Police (AIG) Zone 5, Musa Daura, has harped on the need for voters’ education ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election just as he sued for proper orientation of political parties and their supporters to be law-abiding and eschew acts of violence before, during and after the polls.
Daura, who spoke during a courtesy call by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Maj. Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (rtd) at the force headquarters in Benin City said most of the challenges encountered by the police during electioneering were as a result of “a high level of unwholesome activities of supporters of politicians and political parties.”
He noted that the zone had recorded achievement in crime reduction, particularly in the area of kidnapping, murder and cultism in Bayelsa, Delta and Edo states that are under its control.
Airhaivbere, who commended the police for the their immense contributions towards ensuring a secure and peaceful atmosphere during elections in the country, said the force was highly recognised for its role in ensuring a peaceful and violence-free election” and solicited its continued cooperation to ensuring a hitch-free election come September 10 this year.
