Why Igbo need Kalu in Senate
From Ikenna Emewu, Abuja
An Igbo interest group, Oke Nd’Igbo, has harped on the importance of Ndigbo having strong voices in the
National Assembly, especially in the Senate. The group said former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu winning the senatorial election in the
March 5 rerun in Abia North Senatorial District, is like an Igbo project. A leader of the group, Rev. Ifeanyi Epunam said this in Lagos yesterday.
He said this in the aftermath of the victory of Senator David Mark in the rerun senatorial election in Benue
South at the weekend, and argued that with how Nigerian politics is evolving, parts of the nation need strong personalities to represent them and the greater interest of the nation.
At The Sun annual awards last Saturday, he praised Kalu’s qualities and described him as someone Igbo need in the Senate to drive the interest of the region. “We know Kalu’s political clout, he has pedigree and he is an accomplished person. We are aware he is not aspiring to the Senate because he needs it to make a living.
“It is about service and there is no good reason why people of Abia North should deny themselves and
the entire Igbo the privilege of having such top personality there. “Kalu is not going to represent Abia North alone, but the entire Igbo interest and, as a nationalist, the nation benefits from such personalities with tested experience for the unity of the nation.”
The cleric posited that Dr Kalu is someone who pursues the same interest from the political turf. “Our
democracy is on the verge of maturity and we cannot afford any retrogression of leaving out the best for an
experiment we cannot trust. “Kalu is already known, proven and trusted, so, we have to go for him. That is
what we call on Abia North voters to do.”
He also called on Igbo leaders to see Kalu’s aspiration beyond individual or party interest but from the
point of what the Igbo will gain when a person of Kalu’s calibre is there.
Epunam urged Igbo leaders to talk to and persuade constituents of Abia North Senatorial District to see
voting Kalu as a debt they owe the larger Igbo for her political good for today and the future.
This bastard ran down Abia State whilst sitting as it's governor. Abia State is largely argued to be the worst state in the federation.
ReplyDeleteWhat has he done for to aid sustainable development in Abia state? His only achievement would be Enyimba FC. So I'd suggest he continues to chase the position of Fifa President.
He's a thief...
