Ebonyi State Governor, Mr. David Umahi has suspended the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwo Local government area, Hon. Joseph Orogwu indefinitely over alleged demolition of a church in the area.
The news of the chairman's suspension was broken by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Senator Emma Onwe, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the weekly state council meeting.
The Commissioner noted that the governor was annoyed over the development at a time and was seeking a holy partnership with the churches for God's guidance and mercies.
The governor ordered that the embattled chairman should hand over all government's property at his possession to his Vice chairman with immediate effect.
Orogwu's suspension, THISDAY learnt was the fifth since Umahi assumed office.
Though the governor is a worshiper with the Christ Embassy church, his affinity to all the various churches in the state was evident, as he has linked all his urban road reconstruction to all the nearby churches .
The church, belonging to Christ Embassy was alleged to have been demolished by the Abakaliki Capital Territory Board based on the purported recommendation and approval by the council chairman.
But the chairman denied his involvement on the incident.
He noted that when he heard about the demolition, he rushed to the venue only to inquire that the demotion was on the directive of the leadership of the Abakaliki Capital Territory Board.
