The reports last week from Benue State about the cold-blooded murder of over 100 natives in Atagu Local Government Area should make any government very angry and spurred to act to bring the perpetrators to justice and forestall further occurrence. Sadly, the federal government never really expressed any anger at the massacre suspected to be carried out by Fulani herdsmen.
The government must rise to the occasion, and put effective measures in place to halt the growing impunity and criminality of the cattle herders.
It is dangerous for the authorities to give the impression that certain groups within the country are uncontrollable, or are being sheltered from the law.
