Head coach of the women national team, Scott Nnaji is to invite more players to camp in an effort to boost the team ahead of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, OQT billed for Nantes, France come June 2016.
The coach who is also the president of the Nigeria Coaches Association told Freethrow at the NBBF stakeholders Forum that he had made proposals to the federation on the need to invite a few more players to add spice to the team.
“I believe that there is a need for us to invite a few more players in readiness for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. This is because there are a few areas in the team that we need to tighten up. The players that will join camp will to a large extent be beneficial to the team so as no player is over relaxed that she holds an automatic shirt.”
Speaking on the chances of his girls at the OQR, Nnaji stated that he would not toe the line of those think that Belarus and Korea would be a work over, but will rather say that every team have equal opportunity.
“The teams in our group are not going to be any easy but I believe that with hard work, we can make it to Rio 2016. What I am working on at the moment is to get the tapes of the two countries and study their style of play and of course what is working for them. We’re also looking at a number of invitations for the team. I am glad that the President has said that he would do his best to ensure that D’ Tigress will be at the OQT in France.”
The Nigerian girls came short of qualifying for the Rio Olympic Games ticket when the team finished third place at the AfroBasket Women championship held in Camero
