Lionel Messi will undergo more tests on kidney problems, which first emerged in December, according to Barcelona.
The Argentina captain missed part of the Club World Cup in Japan because of renal colic, an abdominal discomfort commonly caused by kidney stones.
Some reports claimed the 28-year-old would need surgery, to correct the problem which has persisted for several weeks.
The La Liga club has now issued a short statement on the matter.
“Leo Messi will be submitted for different tests on Monday and Tuesday to assess the development of the kidney problems suffered in December,” it read.
“On Wednesday the player will return to training with the first team.”
