A 38-year old man identified as Igiehon Oreoghene has been remanded in prison by an Evbouriaria Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a four -year-old girl.
The offence was committed on January 12 at No. 1, Farmark Street in Benin City, Edo State.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Olatoye Oluwaseun, informed the court that the accused inserted his penis into the girl’s virginal.
He said the offence contravenes section 218 of the criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. ll laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
But the accused pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of defilement.
Presiding Chief Magistrate’s, Mrs. C.E Oghuma, ordered the accused remanded in prison and adjourned the case till February 15 for hearing.
