Barely 24 hours after she was abducted from her residence, mother of the Taraba State Deputy Governor, Hajia Beli Manu, has been freed by her abductors.
Hajia Manu was abducted by unknown gunmen on Monday at Mutum Biyu, Gassol Local Government at about 9p.m. in the presence of her family members and taken to an unknown destination.
She was however released by her abductors Tuesday night and was seen entering her residence unaccompanied at about 11.40p.m. to the pleasant surprise of her family members who had been thrown into serious grief by her abduction.
Confirming her release, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Mr. Joseph Kwaji, told THISDAY that she was released due to the pressure mounted by the state police command.
He further disclosed that the command was already closing-in on the kidnappers before her release as he maintained that the command would not relent until they are brought to book.
Narrating her ordeal to the state police commissioner, Shaba Alkali, who visited her after her release, Hajia Manu, who was released in good condition, disclosed that she was treated with courtesy by her abductors.
She further stated that she was offered food and drink and was not in anyway brutalised by her captors before she was eventually released along Bali/Mutum Biyu road from where she found her way home.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Gassol Local Government Area, Hon. Bashir Tukura, has expressed gratitude to God for sparing the life of the 80-year-old mother of the deputy governor, Hon. Harum Manu.
Tukura, who was visibly elated by the development, stated that the entire local government was thrown into grief and confusion by the sad development, stressing that the council had never witnessed a case of kidnapping before.
