Buhari to partner Central African countries on anti-terrorism


President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said his administration would partner with the 11-member Economic Community of Central Africa States to rid Nigeria and her neighbours of the menace of Boko Haram.
The President was in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, quoted as saying this while receiving a message from President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari was said to have welcomed the effort to organise a joint meeting between ECCAS and the Economic Community of West African States with a view to coordinating their responses to the threat of terrorism in the Lake Chad Basin area.
The statement read in part, “The President particularly noted the role of President Mbasogo in bringing about the proposed summit and described the effort as very commendable.
“President Buhari said he was deeply touched by the commitment shown in Nigeria’s security by Equatorial Guinea and gave assurances of his commitment to enhancing security and bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The special envoy of the Equatorial Guinean President, Mr. Juan Antonio Bibang Nchuchuma, who brought the message, said his President was prepared to expand and share security intelligence and information with Nigeria to help in the war against corruption and terrorism.
“He also requested for a meeting of the security chiefs from both countries.”
…congratulates Moses Iloh at 86
President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday felicitated with the General Overseer of Soul Winning Chapel, Revd. Moses Iloh, on his 86th birthday.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, the President said he joined Iloh’s family, friends, associates and other well-wishers in rejoicing with him as he marks “another notable milestone in a fulfilled life of service to God and humanity.”
Buhari commended the clergyman for his numerous contributions to nation building and development exemplified through his pastoral teachings which he said had brought succour to the less privileged members of the society.
“President Buhari equally extols Dr. Iloh’s endearing humility and integrity and for being a great inspiration to many Nigerians as a philanthropist, labour leader, humanist, footballer and cleric.
“The President prays Almighty God to grant the elder statesman more years of good health, strength and prosperity,” the statement added.
