Abia North re-run: More communities endorse Kalu in 3 local govts

IT was endorsement galore when former governor of Abia State and Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) candidate for the March 5 Abia North senatorial district rerun election, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu visited some communities in three local government areas in continuation of his campaign.
The communities visited over the weekend included Ndi Uduma Awoke, Abia and Akanu in Ohafia Local Government; Eziama, Obulo, Obeleikpa Umuobi and Aro Ikpa, all in Nneato in Umunneochi Local Government. Other communities visited by the eminent business mogul were Achara, Akpukpa/Ndudu, Isunabo and Nvurunvu Umumara all in Uturu in Isuikwuato Local Government.
In all the places visited, Kalu was given a tumultuous welcome as elderly men and women, youths and even school children danced and hugged the former governor who they said made lives better when he was at the helm of affairs of the state by giving them free education and free health care.
At Abia and Akanu Ohafia, where the campaign train arrived at about 8.30pm, the people eulogised Kalu for what they said he did for them when he was governor which they said informed why they waited for him from 9.00am till the time he arrived.
It was the same rousing welcome everywhere he went. At the political wards that made up Nneato in Umunneochi Local Government, the people said they have decided the former governor would be their senator come March 5.
The list included construction of the Leru/Lomara/ Nneato Road, which they said opened up the area. Another striking thing they said Kalu did for them while he was governor for which they will give him their votes, was provision of electricity to virtually all the communities in the area.
At the Uturu axis, the people praised Kalu for his visionary leadership when he was governor which they said made it possible for him to give their children free education and free healthcare.
They promised to vote for him en masse during the election.
Addressing the people of Umunneochi, former commissioner for Information and Strategy under Chief Theodore Orji, Chief Eze Chikamnanyo, who is a son of the soil, said it was Kalu who created some political wards and autonomous communities in the area when he was governor.
He also said it was Kalu who constructed the Leru/ Nneata Road but regretted that those who took over from him could, extend the road to Owerre Ezikala in Anambra State which was in its original plan.
“Whatever good that came to Nneata politically, more than 90 per cent came through Kalu,” and urged the people to vote for him.
On his part, Kalu said if not for the mere fact to tell them he was still in the race, contrary to what some mischief makers were saying and for the respect he had for them, that, he didn’t come to campaign in the areas as what he did when he was governor would speak for him.
He promised them of better days ahead if they vote for him on March 5. He also assured them of quality representation.
