Which Banana Peel Must PMB Avoid in 2016?

Since President Muhammadu Buhari came into power on a wave of popularity in May, 2015, he has been extremely careful not to make avoidable mistakes which may cost his administration dear. However, many disgruntled citizens have started asking him to change his style of governance, with some actually calling for his head in a new online petition. As the president moves to bring the promised change to Nigerians in this 2016, what potential banana peel/s must he avoid to meet the development aspirations of the populace?

ABIMBOLA AKOSILE
* The effort to challenge corruption is a good development and should be sustained but should not be one-sided. Buhari and APC want to turn Nigeria to a one-party state, and it is dangerous for democracy. This government is becoming too dictatorial and is not showing regard to court orders; it is not good in a democracy.
- Mr. Okechukwu Ikonne, Ogbor, Oke-Ovoro, Mbaise, Imo State
* There is nothing like banana peel. He (President Muhammadu Buhari) holds the sword and anyone that interferes shall be sacrificed for Nigeria's resurrection. Old soldier never dies and he is not new in the system, so Nigeria will be better in his term. So let everyone be careful.
- Mr. Obademi Joel, Student, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Apapa, Lagos State
* Buhari’s administration is doing things that will at the end of the day be counter-productive. The administration’s war against corruption is palpably selective and aimed principally at members of the opposition PDP, and the chief enemies of Mr. President. The administration is on a vengeance mission. Buhari did this in his first missionary journey and got his fingers burnt. He still has this banana peel in his ‘babaringa’. There is also the issue of the impending removal of fuel subsidy. How prepared government is in respect of handling any negative consequences will determine whether it has again throw another banana peel against itself.
- Mr. Neville Kikpoye-Jonathan, President, Abua National Associates, Amalem-Abua, Rivers State
* As per PMB, I don't believe he has any banana peel either on his way or mind. He is human being so to speak, but in terms of corruption, he can be above board. However, his party has a lot on their way which PMB has no control over either.
- Mr. David Olatunde, London, United Kingdom
* The banana peel PMB must avoid in 2016 is not to allow the judiciary enjoy their freedom in dispensing judgments without being dictated to. He should concentrate on working to fulfil his campaign promises made to Nigerians, rather than engaging in witch-hunt of his opponents. The judiciary, Army, and the Police and relevant agencies must be left to do their work without interference. We know that President Buhari means well for Nigeria but too much of everything is bad.
- Hon, Babale Maiungwa, U/Romi, Kaduna
* The major banana peel PMB should avoid this year is his tendency to be dictatorial in his decision-making. Even though Nigeria and citizens needs strict discipline from the leaders, the President should be reminded that this is a democracy and not a military regime where things are done by executive fiat. He has to tread the thin line between strict, sincere leadership style and diplomatic approach to governance, given the variety in our cultural, social and religious diversity. Every over-zealous or forceful step taken by him may be misconstrued as selective persecution against the opposition or a section of the country. As he said in his speech on May 29, 2015, as the father of a nation, he must belong to nobody and to everybody at the same time.
- Mr. Olumuyiwa Olorunsomo, Lagos State
* He (President Muhammadu Buhari) should avoid change of focus due to pressures from detractors and distraction agents. Also, he should avoid double standards and remain resolute in his fight against corruption.
- Mr. Alex Onyebuchi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State
* PMB must step on peoples’ toes to deliver good governance. Nigerians voted for him because the past government/s failed Nigerians over banana peels. Nigerians voted for change and we will see it coming whether the so-called cabals and well-known Nigerians like it or not. The budget he presented to Nigerians showed that he has vision and mission for Nigerians. PMB will lead us to the promised land of infrastructural development. It is time and patience that we need to exercise.
- Mr. Gordon Chika Nnorom, Public Commentator, Umukabia, Abia State
* The avoidable banana peel are those named in his cabinet as being corrupt or those accused of having benefitted immensely during the previous administration; if PMB is truly fighting corruption whole-heartedly. Nigerians are waiting to see or hear their version.
- Mr. Dogo Stephen, Kaduna
* With the current state of the economy and the minimum wage still the same amount, it is absolutely absurd for anyone to expect that Nigerians can afford the increase in electricity bills, at this time. I do not believe that a President that has fixed our refineries and reduced the pump price of petroleum by 50 kobo will endorse this sort of increase in electricity bills. So, someone else must be pushing this. If the power companies are not breaking even, then government should subsidise electricity prices in line with the current realities. May God keep President safe from banana peels that he may do His will.
- Mr. Buga Dunj, Jos, Plateau State
* The issue of fuel scarcity and its expensiveness is having negative and multiplier effects on transportation, price of food products, goods and services. This negative trend needs checking. Also, we must avoid International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan under whatever guise.
- Mr. Apeji Onesi, Lagos State
* There are several banana peels President Muhammadu Buhari should be wary of; the Ides of March is one! Aside being wary of friends and well-wishers, the President needs to pursue a forward-looking foreign policy tailored to grow our economy, not economies elsewhere.
- Mr. Ekwenjo Iheanyi Chukwudi, Brainchild Academic Resources (BAR), Trademore Estate, Apo, Abuja
* Apart from fulfilling his good campaign manifestoes without fear or favour, PMB must ensure that we reject any loan from any suspicious financial institutions like IMF and such. They are unforgiving shylocks. Their bitter pill didn't cure us in the past. Nigeria should beware of any Greek gift.
- Miss Apeji Patience Eneyeme, Badagry, Lagos State
