Onne container terminal gets port development recognition

The West Africa Container Terminal, Onne Port, has been named Nigeria’s Best Container Handling and Port Development Company in 2015.
A statement by the Director, External Communications, APM Terminals, Netherlands, Tom Boyd, said this was made known at the African Governance and Corporate Leadership Award 2015, organised by Nigeria’s Institute for Government, Research, Leadership and Technology in Abuja.
He said the award was in recognition of the WACT’s establishment of new industry standards in the areas of productivity, investment and service delivery to its customers in Nigeria.
The Managing Director, WACT, Martin Jacob, said, “We are very proud of what we have been able to accomplish as a team and we are grateful for this national recognition of our achievement.
“WACT has succeeded in connecting East, North, West Central Nigeria and Rivers State to the world. This was made possible through outstanding service delivery, cordial business relationship with our customers, regular interaction with all our stakeholders, manpower development, acquisition of modern equipment, improved technology and e-commerce.”
The Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture also named WACT the winner of its 2015 Corporate Distinguished Service Award.
The award was said to be in recognition of the firm’s outstanding performance in its operation, year-on-year container volume growth and efficiency in Information Technology.
Owned and operated by APM Terminals, WACT Onne started commercial operations in 2007 and has become the most efficient Nigerian gateway to markets outside the Lagos area.
In a related development, APM Terminals Apapa Limited has recently aided the diagnosis, treatment and care for cancer patients in Nigeria by revamping the Oncology Section of the Radiotherapy and Oncology Department of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.
The Deputy Managing Director, APM Terminals Apapa, Mr. Olufemi Ransome-Kuti, in a statement by the company, said, “Cancer is a leading cause of death in the world today, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. APM Terminals was moved by this fact to support the care and treatment of cancer patients.
“The renovation of the oncology clinic is a corporate social responsibility initiative of our company in line with one of our core values, constant care, which focuses on sustainable business environment. This includes our employees, customers and their families.”
The Head, Radiotherapy and Oncology Department at LUTH, Prof. Remi Ajekigbe, expressed joy at the facelift, which the clinic had received.
He said, “Cancer is a gloomy disease, and taking care of cancer patients in a gloomy environment will be double jeopardy.”
