Lagos kidnap: IGP to deploy special detectives

NOTHING has been heard of the whereabouts of the businessman, Francis Umeh who was abducted last Thursday night at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State.
Umeh was picked up by five gunmen dressed in military camouflage about 7.30pm in front of the Mobil filling station close to his residence.
When Sunday Sun visited their home at Raji Rasaki estate, it was deserted except for the hungry dogs that barked endlessly. Neighbours who refused to speak on the development lamented that they were terrified to talk as no one knew their  next victim. It was also gathered that the abductors are yet to get across to the family.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who was at the Mobil station at the time of the incident alleged that the gunmen who were heavily armed shot sporadically into the air as policemen at nearby checkpoint took to their heels.
“I had just finished buying fuel from the petrol station when they struck. Initially, I thought they were planning to attack the petrol station before it became clear that they were after one man inside a jeep. I started running towards the police checkpoint close to the area but they had abandoned their vehicle and fled. The gun men picked the man, turned and drove back towards Festac link bridge.”
It was gathered that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni has since summoned the Area Commander to explain why there are incessant cases of high profile kidnapping in his area.
Meanwhile, Sunday Sun reliably learnt that the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has concluded plans to redeployed specially trained detectives to guarantee the safe return of Umeh.
