The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, has ordered the management of the FCT Health & Human Services Secretariat to immediately commence medical services to patients at the Zuba Cottage Hospital.
The minister gave the order on Wednesday while receiving a brief from the officials of the secretariat in Abuja.
Bello expressed surprise at why the Zuba General Hospital, whose structures had since been completed, remained unutilised despite the fact that the people were craving for such important services especially with the daily influx of people into FCT.
He noted that there was the need to give priority attention to the Zuba Cottage Hospital, with a view to making it operational and accessible to FCT residents.
“It is waste of public funds to build such an important hospital in that kind of location that is highly populated and refuse to open it to provide medical services to the people” Bello said.
The minister in a statement by the FCT Chief Press Secretary, Hamzat Sule, said this was one of the only ways the FCT Administration could provide quality healthcare services in the FCT, especially to those in the rural areas thereby reducing pressure on the existing healthcare facilities in the Territory.
