LEICESTER City last night returned to the top of the Premier League dethroning Arsenal after a 1-1 draw away to struggling Aston Villa, while star studded Chelsea has Referee Mikes Jones to thank for escaping home defeat against Everton.
Leicester now leads the EPL log with 44 points, while Manchester City who went goalwire at home against Crystal Palace yesterday winning 4-0 is second with 43 points.
Arsenal who before yesterday’s games was on top would however return to the top should she get a win or even a draw in her away game against Stoke City today.
Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring for Leicester , reacting quickest to poke home after Villa’s keeper Mark Bunn had athletically clawed out Jamie Vardy’s lob.
Riyad Mahrez missed a chance to double the lead from the spot after a controversially-awarded penalty.
But Villa striker Rudy Gestede levelled after his second-half shot deflected past keeper Kasper Schmeichel.
At Stamford Bridge, John Terry’s 98th-minute equalizer scored from what was clearly an off-side position rescued a point for Chelsea and capped a thrilling and controversial finish to the 3-3 draw against Everton.
Everton manager, Roberto Martinez hit out at referee Mike Jones for the “diabolical decision” of allowing John Terry’s 98th-minute goal to stand.
Substitute Ramiro Funes Mori looked to have won the game for Martinez’s side when he scored in the 90th minute.
Martinez was furious that the game had gone beyond the allotted seven minutes of stoppage-time, even as he pointed out that Terry scored from an off-side position.
“It was a fantastic game for the fans, but the level of refereeing was diabolical. That’s really hurtful and no-one deserves that,” Martinez told Sky Sports.
