The ongoing gale of defection in Cross River State seems to be gathering momentum as Special Assistant to the Senate president, Mr. Victor Abang, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Peoples Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Others who defected together with him recently are 15 ward executive members, including chairman and secretary in his Kakwagom Bawop Ward in Boki Local Government Area in the Central Senatorial District of the state and over 600 supporters.
The defection is coming barely one week after some political big wigs and prominent citizens of the state moved to APC.
Giving reasons for his movement to the APC, Mr Abang said: “Following ugly developments in the PDP in the state where there is glaring lack of internal democracy and reckless imposition of candidates, I had to obey the will of my teeming supporters and move.
“It would not be in my interest to stay in a party where decisions are taken by a few against the opinion of the majority of the party members, it is expedient to move to a better political climate which the APC offers.”
Some of his supporter told Daily Sun that they are happy that their leader has finally agreed to their appeal to leave the PDP for another party, adding that they have mounted pressure since the run-up to the 2015 elections where candidates were pickled arbitrarily by the leadership of the PDP against the will and consent of the party members.
Chairmen of the APC, Messers Clement Nku-Itu and Andy Bisong welcomed Abnag to the party.
The Ward Chairman, Andy Bisong, assured him of fair play and justice at all times as he is now the one the party will look up to in the ward and local government area to change the political fortunes of the area
