Afenifere warns Buhari against sectional anti-corruption war

THE Pan Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere has pulled its weight behind the President Muhammodu Buhari’s administration war against corruption, but warned against what it described as sectional anti-corruption war.
Also, the group condemned what it described as selective anti corruption war of the present administration and urged the government of President Buhari to make its war against corruption total.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the monthly meeting of the organization held at the residence of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti in Akure, the Publicity Secretary of the organization, Mr. Yinka Odumakin said the apex Yoruba group urged President Buhari to extend the war against corruption to all sectors of the nation’s economy.
He said “Afenifere supports the war against corruption because it is evil but we quickly warn that the war against corruption should not be selective, sectional and should be all embracing and encompassing.”
He added that “We believe that corruption should be fought within the confines of rules of law, and the anti-corruption war should not be the only agenda of the government.”
“They should concentrate on rebuilding the economy because we have seen countries that have been ravaged by war. Liberia and Serria-Lonne people took over government and they started rebuilding the economy. So we should not turn anti-corruption war to be only agenda. Building the economy is important.”
On the current economic depression in the country, the group noted that “naira is collapsing. Every sector is going down. Investors are leaving our country. This should attract the attention of the government but not to continue to sectionalise anti-corruption war because ultimately, our experience has shown that anti-corruption war takes a long time to win.”
