Yuletide: Nigerians Should Be More Security Conscious - NOA

Abuja - As the Christmas season picks in the country with its attendant traffic volumes and crime rate, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has appealed to Nigerians to be more security conscious and cooperate with security officers in and around the parks and the high ways.
Director General of NOA, Mike Omeri, who made the appeal on Thursday, admonished commuters to board vehicles at designated motor parks to avoid falling victims to robbers and kidnappers.
Omeri, who gave the advice at a forum for Promoting Security, Vigilance and Road Use Ethics in Abuja, decried the high rate of accidents in the country, stressing that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has the highest accident rates in the country with most of such cases occurring in December.
While stressing the need for caution by transporters and commuters alike, he called for vigilance to help identify and apprehend miscreants that might want to take advantage of travelers for criminal purposes.
The NOA DG urged Nigerians to promptly alert the nearest security agency of any suspicious persons or circumstances for prompt action.
In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, represented by the Director, Security Services, Mohammed Mohammed, urged cooperation amongst security agencies in both intelligence sharing and operations for effective security of lives and property during the season.
Transporters were charged to be more conscious of the goods they convey than the money they stand to make in order to avoid transporting prohibited items and getting on the wrong side of the law.
