THE All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are locked in war of words over the visit of Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson to the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.
The APC through the Sylva/ Igiri Campaign Organisation (SICO) said Dickson was snubbed because he could not meet with President Muhammadu Buhari and instead went to the office of the Chief of Staff, describing the visit as “sign of desperation” and acceptance of defeat,” a claim the PDP denied, saying the visit was not to see the President.
According to the APC in a statement by the Director of Publicity, Chief Nathan Egba, the surprise visit was to lobby Buhari and sought for soft-landing in the event that he is defeated in the re-run slated for January 9.
He said Dickson lacks the moral right to seek audience with Buhari after disrespecting the Office of the President with his series of name-calling following the outcome of the inconclusive election.
Dickson had repeatedly alleged that President Buhari wanted to use the federal might including the military and Police to rig the election in favour of the APC and its governorship candidate, former governor Timipre Sylva. Why is he visiting him now,” Egba asked.
He wondered why Dickson, who has stayed away from the Villa for weeks would want to see the President ahead of a crucial election in the state.
Egba said Dickson was unsettled because of the rerun in Southern Ijaw LGA which he said is a stronghold of the APC, accusing the governor of seeking soft-landing in the event that he is defeated.
However, the PDP has said the visit to the Presidential Villa was not to see Buhari. In a statement by the Director of Publicity of the Bayelsa Restoration Campaign Organisation (BYRCO), Jonathan Obuebite, the PDP said the claims by the APC were a set of “lies and figment of the imagination”.
According to the PDP,” the APC claim is filled with lies. It is sad the APC in Bayelsa State would think the governor would visit Aso Villa without any previous appointment.
“For crying out loud, it is inconceivable for anyone to assume, much less believe that the governor of an oil rich state that contributes over 40 per cent of the nation’s wealth will be denied access to see the President. The governorship election had already been won and lost. Therefore, it is not a surprise that the APC in Bayelsa State was still carrying on in their usual deception as if they still stand a chance. The APC has lost and they know it. No amount of propaganda and blackmail will return them as winners. They have been roundly rejected by the people and we truly sympathise with them because the APC is finished in Bayelsa State”, Obuebite said.
