Igbo professionals charged to participate in politics

National Chairman of the Governing Council of National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has called on Igbo professionals and groups to participate in politics as absence of professionals in politics and leadership has paved the way for all manner of people who are available to take over.
Prof. Odinkalu, who was the guest speaker at the 20th anniversary of Mbaise People’s Congress (MPC) held at Colonades Hotel, Ikoyi in honour of Mbaise patriots said flaws in producing political leaders predate 2003 and 2007 general election.
“Much of these flaws come from the leadership and management cadres of the electoral umpire, political parties, security agencies and the legal systems where we have many professionals in charge.
He noted that Nigeria’s diversity is a positive resource and not a curse, adding that Nigeria’s leaders have, for the most part, failed to transcend the narrownesses inherent in this diversity.
He argued that the synergies inherent in a big country like Nigeria offer greater long term prospects to all within it than the risks and inefficiencies in smaller territories, stressing that harnessing these prospects requires vision and leadership of the sort that the country has historically not been blessed with on a significant scale.
He challenged the congress and other Igbo groups to do more in ameliorating the plight of the Igbo man in the Nigerian state and also called on Igbo leaders to rise and look into Biafra agitation by Igbo youths.
