One of Nigeria’s largest online malls, Konga.com, has unveiled an innovative payment solution, called KongaPay, that allows customers to perform one-click payments for their transactions, creating better shopping experience for them.
Mr. JR Kanu, Associate Director, Payment and Digital Goods at Konga.com, explained that the new payment system worked in tandem with Nigerian banks to give customers full control of their money while transacting online. Mr. Kanu, who led the team that launched KongaPay, further stated that KongaPay had an escrow system that holds money paid for an order until the transaction is completed to the satisfaction of the customer.
“Furthermore, he added, “one notable thing about KongaPay is its simplicity and seamless integration with Nigerian banks. Not only have we eliminated the inconvenience of constantly pulling out a debit card or bank token to complete a transaction, we’ve also integrated refunds at the click of a button while maintaining the highest security standards.”
Mr. Kanu explained that all KongaPay transactions require two keys for transaction verification. First is the 4-digit pin, a numeric password created at the point of registration. Like all passwords, this is private and should never be shared. Secondly, the bank sends a one-time-password (OTP) via SMS or email. This OTP is only sent to the customer’s registered mobile number, the mobile number used by the customer’s bank and the customers BVN. KongaPay allows anyone with a bank account and a registered mobile phone number to use the application without necessarily signing up for internet banking.
Vice President Marketing, Konga.com, Gabriel Gab-Umoden explained the significance of KongaPay to online shoppers. He stated, “KongaPay is set to be a game changer in terms of providing online shoppers a platform they can trust. This trust will be built on the guarantee of fast returns and refunds for orders paid for with KongaPay.”
Speaking on Konga’s general strategy for satisfying customers, Mr. Gab-Umoden said: “We have discovered that if your value proposition is right, people will use our platform. This drives our commitment to always have the right mix of products, at the right prices, with excellent support services to complement our digital capacity”. As an added benefit, Gab-Umoden revealed that all items on Konga.com receive a 5% discount if paid for with KongaPay. For now, this discount continues indefinitely.
KongaPay is the first non-banking platform in Nigeria to plug in to the Bank Verification Number (BVN). To register, please visit www.konga.com/kongapay/.

Cross River: Governor Ayade engages corporate leaders for Carnival Calabar
History was made recently when the new helmsman in Cross River State flew into Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, to hold a brain storming and vision sharing session with 52 leaders of some of Nigeria’s leading organisations as well as multinationals. The session harped on the need for the organisations to engage with Cross River and partner with the government in taking optimal advantages of the opportunities his government is beginning to create in the state. He also admonished the CEOs to invest in and become part of the Carnival Calabar. This was the first time such an engagement session would be holding since the carnival began eleven years ago. The meeting took place at George Hotel, Ikoyi.
Professor Ben Ayade held the audience captive for one and half hour as he spoke off-the-cuff, eloquently and passionately of his vision for the industrialisation of Cross River State and how the ongoing 260-kilometre super high way and deep sea port would activate not only the economy of the state but also the entire South-south zone of Nigeria.
Upon ending his speech, one after another the CEOs arose to pledge support for his government and also their interest in being part of the Carnival Calabar 2015.
Said Mr. Sunil Sawhney, CEO of 7Up Bottling Company, after listening to the governor: “Your excellency, I have never heard a Nigerian governor speak so eloquently and passionately. In fact, as you were speaking, I had to hold myself back, as all I wanted to say was…come on, lets head for Calabar right now.”
According to Mr. Cosmas Maduka of Coscharis Motors, “I believe a new dawn has come for Cross River State. And I am assuring you that you will feel our presence with full force.”
Also responding to the governor’s clarion call was Mr. Segun Ogunsanya: “We at Airtel are ready to make Calabar the hub of our activities in the South-south. We already have some investments in your state and would be looking to boost it even further. I am most delighted, as you sounded like a businessman more than a politician.”
Other organisations that attended the breakfast meeting included Access Bank, Dana Motors, Skye Bank, Nigerian Breweries, Heritage bank, Zenith Bank, Coca-Cola, Lafarge, Scoa motors, Flour Mills Nigeria, H. Safiedine Transport, Chellarams, Tata Africa, UBA, Wakanow, among others
