LAGOS State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has urged Muslims to offer special prayers for the peace, unity and continuous progress of Nigeria, as they join their counterparts across the world to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, Ambode enjoined Muslims to follow the exemplary leadership of the Holy Prophet by promoting peaceful co-existence among the various groups in the society.
He said: “On the occasion of the commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet, it is imperative to reflect on his teachings and uphold his legacies of unity, integrity, peaceful co-existence and love for one’s neighbour, which is indispensable in our quest for meaningful development and the management of our diversity.”
Also, Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed urged Nigerians to love one another as they celebrate the birthdays of Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ.
In his Maulud and Christmas messages issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahab Oba,Ahmed said Nigerians should always walk the path of humility, self denial and brotherliness, which are the hallmarks of the teachings of both religions.
The governor advised that the period should be used as a time to show love and affection, especially to the needy, and said Nigerians should be prepared to make sacrifices in these trying times. He commended Christian and Muslim leaders in the state for promoting religious harmony and encouraged them not to relent in their effort in building a better society.
On his part, Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, said t this year’s Eid-el-Maulud and Christmas, which commemorate the birth of Prophet Mohammed (SWT) and Jesus Christ call for celebration.
Ajimobi said this year’s celebrations of the birth of the holy ones, which follow in quick succession, was a rare coincidence and a momentous occasion that should be accordingly savoured by adherents
