FURTHERING OUR BROTHERHOOD V.

FURTHERING OUR BROTHERHOOD V.

From the family unit to the national turf I see a profound vote for brotherhood. I see the preponderance of thought in favour of our togetherness. I see the congregation of the young and the old in passionate aggregation of Pan-Nigerian ideals. And I see the joyous daybreak of a Nigeria that belongs to all, that protects all, and that prides in citizenship and patriotism.

I'm mindful of the voices of discord from a deafening few. I'm mindful of the germinating seeds of separatist inveigle. I'm mindful of the need for proactive engagement of the tendencies that grudge our union. And I'm mindful of the pertinence and inevitability of broad-based dialogue that must right the wrongs threatening our union.

Conceding political power to zones or regions, allocating political office along regional or religious lines will do little to assuage the angst and the pang deriving from major ideological and structural defects. We must rework this union to engender true fiscal federalism. We must rework our national protocol to allow for devolution of power. And we must replace indigeneship with citizenship.

Again we must realize that more than zoning of power and offices, what Nigerians demand is responsible and responsive leadership, as such is the way to silence separatists and critics.

The surest way to further our brotherhood is for 'parent-type' leaders to emerge and govern fairly, justly, equitably and without segregation.

God Bless Nigeria.

CONCLUDED.
