He has directed command Commissioners of Police to personally ensure that key and vulnerable points including shopping malls, motor parks, financial houses, places of worship, recreation centres and other public places are adequately and effectively protected, to enable holiday makers, worshippers and the general public to enjoy maximum fulfillment.
Arase in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole on Thursday in Abuja, warned police officers to comport themselves and act within the confines of the law.
“They must be firm but polite, civil and professional in the discharge of their assigned roles, giving due regard and respect to the fundamental human rights of citizens at all times,” he stated.
The IG said he had also directed all Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and state CPs to take all necessary measures to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Eid-el Maulud celebration.
“CPs are to personally, ensure that key and vulnerable points including shopping malls, motor parks, financial houses, places of worship, recreation centres and other public places are adequately and effectively protected,” Arase said.
Meanwhile, the IG has expressed felicitation with Nigerians as they celebrated the Eid-El Maulud and Christmas with the rest of the world.
He enjoined the Muslims to “emulate and imbibe the worthy virtues, principles and teachings of the holy prophet by being open-minded to issues of peace, forgiveness and harmonious co-existence, especially, at this auspicious moment in the history of our country.”
In the same vein, the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has congratulated Abuja residents, particularly the Christian faithful on the occasion of Christmas, stressing that the celebration calls for sober reflection as well as the need to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ.
While urging Christians to be their brothers’ keepers as the nation celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, he appealed to all residents of the FCT to continue to be good neighbours to their fellow residents, irrespective of religious beliefs.
The Minister further urged the residents to “spread the gospel of love, tolerance and peaceful co-existence,” adding that peace remains the cornerstone of any meaningful development.
