Baptism of fire on Abuja highway

Residents of Kunchinkau in Karu LGA, Nasarawa State witnessed another petrol tanker fire at worse dimension.
The fire started last Sunday morning, December 20. Stopping the fire with water proved fruitless as the water power of the Federal Fire Service could not make any impact to stop the fire. It started from the 33,000 litre tanker carrying diesel called AGO.
Abuja Metro gathered that the tanker, which was brought in the morning to offload the product, suddenly caught fire inside the fuel station. But for the quick intervention of the conductor who bravely drove the tanker out of the station and parked it away from the petrol station, the extent of damage would have been aggravated.
Onlookers tried their best to assist in putting off the fire but were overpowered. Men and officers of the Federal Fire Service eventually came but it was too late to salvage the situation.
Another commercial bus too was caught in the inferno and burnt to ashes. As at press time, the owner of the bus was not known. Mr. Abah Gabriel, an eyewitness was really full of praise for the conductor who was swift and courageous enough to come up with the idea of moving the tanker out of the station. He said: “That conductor deserves as award. His quick thinking was second to none. The way he arrested the situation was something else.” In the melee of the fire, nobody could spot who actually was the driver of the truck that brought the product to the station.
