ONE of the strong stakeholders in Abia North Senatorial District, Mecha Udo Mecha, has applauded the Court of Appeal verdict that nullified the election of Chief Mao Ohuabunwa as the senator representing the zone.
In a congratulatory letter to the former Abia State governor and candidate of the Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA) in the election, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, Mecha described the judgment as a big relief, adding that Kalu remains the hope of the people of the zone for quality representation.
“Senators are elected by the people and not imposed or rigged into position,” he said.
Mecha further added, that it was inconceivable that Ohuabunwa could beat Kalu in an electoral contest in the zone.
“By this verdict, the process of rescuing Abia from the clutches of malevolent warlocks has commenced. We trust God that Ohuabunwa’s benefactor will be so similarly shown the door, so that the Senate seats allotted to Abia State will not be wasted but shall be occupied by men, who will, indeed, represent and protect the people’s interest.
“There is no doubt that a contest between you and Ohuabunwa or any other candidate for that matter for Abia North senatorial seat will be a no-contest. That, notwithstanding, we must do all within our power to ensure that the people’s voice is heard and their choice respected.
“I congratulate you for putting up a dogged fight; your victory is the collective victory of all Abia North stakeholders and all Abia indigenes at large. You have given us reasons to believe, and the people now look up to you in their quest for quality representation at the centre. This opportunity is most auspicious, as it comes at a time that the absence of dynamic leadership in the South-East is exposing the region to all manner of embarrassment and odium.
As you go into the rerun soon, we trust and believe that all well-meaning citizens of Abia North shall line up behind you again to recover the mandate that they have so generously given to you. You have our support sir.”
