Corona School Rot: Per Second News Report Prompts Resignation of Provost...School Suspends Productivity Bonus

Following the publication by Per Second News; that revealed the decay in Corona Schools’ in Lagos with very low teachers’ moral, the Provost of the Corona College of Education, who also doubles as the Director of the Corona Teachers' College, Mrs. Ifueko Thomas, may have resigned her appointment.

Per Second News had on October 28, 2015 captured details of the rot taking place in the institutions expected to be a choice and model schools.

Information reaching Per Second News indicate that Mrs. Thomas' resignation, which has not been officially announced, came in the wake of the publication on Corona Schools. It further gathered that the Provost may have adopted the option of resignation to prevent an unpleasant consequences she might not be able to handle.

Information pieced together from a reliable source by our correspondent indicate that as soon as story hit the news waves, the Executive Director of the Corona Schools’ Trust Council, Mrs. Olufunto Igun, ordered all Corona Heads of School (HOS), to converge at the corporate head office for an emergency meeting, which she chaired via conference calling, as she was on a vacation trip to London as at the time of the publication.

According to the source; “Some of the decisions taken at the meeting include; "All the HOS should convene a stand-up meeting same day to assure staff that the Trust Council is already aware of the publication and will address it 'professionally and appropriately';

“”Others include, instant dismissal of any staff found to be discussing the matter, grant press interview or respond to any enquiry related to the publication, to any media, customer or friends and relatives."

Accordingly, the organization's Information Technology Manager (ITM), was mandated to hack into staffers' private and official e-mail accounts, to unravel the brains behind the publication.

All staff were also encouraged to adorn the 60th anniversary T-shirt every Friday, until further notice, to give a false impression of staffers' solidarity with the organization.

The Source further stated that the Productivity Bonus which was scheduled to be paid within the first week of November, has been suspended, as Igun's initial plan was to "pay a paltry N50,000 each to all categories of staff; excluding management staffs."

For now, there is no further communication on the matter just as no explanation has been given on same.

Parents' representatives from the respective schools converged at Mrs. Igun's office on Monday, November 2, 2015, and handed a two-week ultimatum to her within which to resolve the contentious issues.

Meanwhile, most members of staff of Corona Schools are seriously contemplating tendering their resignation collectively except the appointments of Mr. Sulaiman and Mrs. Igun are terminated or made to resign as well.
