Ondo State Governor and Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum, Olusegun Mimiko, has described the nullification of the April 11, 2015 Rivers State governorship election as hasty, saying PDP governors would soon meet to deliberate on it.
A statement by the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade, on Monday, quoted Mimiko as saying that the judgment was embarrassing.
Mimiko said, “Tribunal judgment is either way but the Rivers State election tribunal judgment delivered last Saturday is embarrassing. There are lots of matters around the judgment that need to be tested.
“We have challenged the jurisdiction of the tribunal sitting in Abuja when Port Harcourt is peaceful. The chairman of the tribunal was changed and the Supreme Court will deliver judgment on the jurisdiction case before the end of this week.”
The PDP Governors Forum chairman said there was no way the tribunal judges could have studied the avalanche of written address and evidence adopted and delivered judgment in less than 24 hours.
He said, “Nine written addresses were adopted by the tribunal at about 2pm on Thursday while the notice of judgment was sent on Friday. Apart from the nine written addresses of over 40 pages each, there were over 100 witnesses and over 1,000 documents presented. The judges could not have evaluated all these within 24 hours.”
Mimiko said there was no need for the tribunal to rush to deliver judgment when it still has up till next week before its sitting date lapses.
