Leopards devour wingless Eagles without Enyeama
Few hours after Vincent Enyeama announced his retirement from international football, the Super Eagles lost 2-0 to Congo DR in an international friendly on Thursday night in Belgium.
Enyeama announced his retirement on his Instagram page after a protracted disagreement with Coach Sunday Oliseh who stripped him of his captaincy position and handed it over to Ahmed Musa.
In the absence of the France-based goalkeeper, England-based Carl Ikeme manned the posts for the Super Eagles but was unable to prevent the Congolese from inflicting on Oliseh his first defeat as Head Coach of the Super Eagles.
The goals were also the first to be conceded by the Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper in what was his third appearance for the former African champions.
The Leopards took the lead courtesy of Dieumerci Mbokani in the seventh minute before Jordan Nkololo made it 2-0 on 31 minutes.
It was not Congo DR all the way though as the Super Eagles also had goal scoring chances of their own but were unable to get the better of Congo DR goalkeeper Parfait Mandanda who was on hand at various points in the game to stop goal-bound efforts from Mikel Obi, Ogenyi Onazi and Nigeria debutant Alex Iwobi.
Up next for Oliseh and his Eagles is an even tougher match against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions on Sunday in Brussels.
