… As Troops Ambush And kill Fleeing Terrorists
Nigerian military at the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole on Wednesday said members of the terrorists group, Boko Haram have now resorted to poisoning water sources like wells and streams in areas they were dislodged by gallant troops or areas threatened by offensive operations.
This is even as troops in the Operation Lafiya Dole successfully ambushed and killed two fleeing terrorists as well as captured several weapons and supplies.
In a press statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Tukur Gusau said the latest act of poisoning water sources by the terrorists is the poisoning of the cattle water ponds in Kangallam village along Marte and Abadam axis in Borno State where a large number of cattle died after drinking water from the ponds.
Gusau further said that credible information available to the military Theatre Command indicates that though no human life was lost as a result of the barbaric act of the terrorists, some cattle were however killed after drinking water from some of the poisoned sources.
Gusau said: “The action of the terrorists is no doubt aimed at taking their own pound of flesh on the innocent citizens and livestock as a result of the unbearable offensive operations through the combined effort of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force to route them out completely from their enclaves and hide-outs all over the North East.
“In view of this development citizens are called upon to avoid as much as possible drinking water from unverified sources especially in locations that troops routed out Boko Haram terrorists.”
Meanwhile, troops who laid the ambush at the Boko Haram crossing point into Sambisa Forest at Iza, engaged the terrorists who succumbed to the superior firepower of troops and fled.
At the end of the encounter two of the terrorists were killed while some abandoned their supplies and fled which led to the capturing of one general purpose machine gun and one AK47 rifle.
Other items abandoned by the terrorists were three bicycles and some provisions including maggi, potash, peanut and onions.
