…Ondo Gov and Wife Shop At Akure Mall During Opening
Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Wednesday unveiled the Shoprite outlet in Akure, the state capital, where he reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing enabling environment for small and medium scale businesses to thrive.
It would be recalled that the inauguaration of this N1.651 billion shopping mall and car park located within the premises of the state-owned Owena Motels on Igbatoro Road, Akure started in 2014 and was funded by Top Services Nigeria Limited under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) which was established by Mimiko’s administration.
Unveiling the outlet, the Governor assured the people that the mall would add value to the economic landscape of the state, stressing that it would also provide opportunities for domestic retailers as well by enhancing effective supply chain process.
He noted that the Mall would create employment opportunities as well as boost the economy of the state.
Mimiko said, “Looking forward in the next couple of weeks, the Dome will be back along this corridor and this place will be the commercial hub of sort. At the end of all these, our people will be gainfully engaged and the multiplier effect on our economy will truly be great.
“The excitement is not just having the Akure Mall, but about the opportunity for our local retailers to ply their trade and also about the opportunity for a supply chain that will originate from this state.”
Chief Executive Officer of Top Services Limited, the developer of the Mall, Mr. Tokunbo Omisore, commended Mimiko for providing the enabling environment for the project and also for fast-tracking every aspect of the contract agreement.
Also speaking, the State Coordinator of the standard organization of Nigeria (SON),Engr. Paul Oke assured that the organization will ensure that products brought to the Mall are of good quality and meet the standard of SON.
“We want to ensure that whatever they are bringing in for the consumers is of good quality and that they get value for their money,” he said.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Mr. Bayo Alarapon described the development as marvelous and one of the biggest achievements of the current administration.
“We are happy that this thing is happening right here in Akure which is now ranking among the best cities in the world.
“Their prices are going to be relatively cheap and there will be a lot of advantages which employment is part of,” he explained.
The ultra modern retail shopping mall has become an entertainment hub for the state and its environ located within the premises of the state-owned Owena Motels on Igbatoro Road, Akure and close to the state’s multibillion naira event centre popularly called ‘Dome’ project.
The initiative is presently creating job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths and graduates, and also for farmers and artisans which would in turn boost revenue generation for Ondo State.
