TSA: Perm secs, directors that defy Buhari risk dismissal

There are strong indications that the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation will, on Thursday, submit a preliminary report on the Treasury Single Account to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The PUNCH also gathered on Sunday that permanent secretaries, directors and other top officials of the ministries, departments and agencies, who flouted the presidential directive on TSA, might be dismissed.

Tuesday (tomorrow) is the deadline for the directive on TSA.

It was learnt that errant public servants would be treated as economic saboteurs and that they would be suspended.

Findings showed that they would be made to face a disciplinary committee which would be set up by the Head of Service.

A top official of in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, who confided in one of our correspondents, said anybody found guilty would be dismissed.

The official said, “Although, I cannot tell you the number of agencies that have complied with the presidential directive, the President would be briefed on the issue this week, possibly Thursday.

“Those who fail to comply will be treated as economic saboteurs and will be suspended. They may eventually be dismissed from service.”

When contacted, the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, failed to respond to enquiries by one of correspondents on the number of MDAs that had abided by the presidential directive on TSA and the punishment that would be meted out to those who flouted the order.

Similarly, calls to the spokesperson for the OAGF, Mrs. K.N. Offie, were not picked. A Chief Press Secretary at the Ministry of Finance directed one of our correspondents to forward all enquiries on the TSA to the Accountant General’s office.

But Idris had a few days ago told one of our correspondents that a lot of government agencies had complied with the directive.

He, however, failed to provide the number of agencies that had complied with the directive, when asked. Idris said that the office was inundated with daily requests from agencies for compliance with the directive

He said, “We are making progress with the Treasury Single Account because a lot of government agencies are complying with the government’s directive.

“I would not be able to provide you with the number of agencies that have complied now because I don’t have that the figure at my fingertips. More so, we receive requests on a daily basis even today from MDAs on the TSA.”

It will be recalled that the President recently gave all MDAs a September 15 deadline to comply with the Treasury Single Account directive.

The directive requires all MDAs to pay all revenues and monies accruing to the government into a Federal Sub-Treasury account maintained by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
