Oyo spends N54,000 annually on each pupil –Ajimobi

The Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has said that the state government annually spends N54,000 on each secondary school pupil in the state.

During a call on parents to support the government in the training of their children, at the posthumous centenary birthday celebration and foundation launch in honour of the late Adegoke Adelabu in Ibadan on Thursday, Ajimobi said the decision to ask parents to pay N1,000 per term for a pupil in the secondary school was only reached as a temporary measure to address facility decay as well as involving parents in their children training.

He said, “Each session, the state spends N54,000 on each secondary school pupil apart from the payment of the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination fee we were paying. I don’t know why we receive backlash when we asked parents to pay N1,000 per term for the education of their children. God says whoever has a child must train him or her. What you sow in these children is what you will reap one day.

“I urge the parents to cooperate with the state government and pay this Education Developmental Levy. Without any doubt, that is not the amount needed to train a child, the government has subsidised it heavily.”
