… errant MDAs to face sanction, says AGF

Almost all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government met the Tuesday deadline for them to comply with the directive on the Treasury Single Account.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the Deputy Director of Press, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. K. N. Offie, quoted the AGF, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, as saying that sanctions awaited any MDA that failed to comply with the directive.

Offie said, “The Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, has commended all Ministries, Departments and Agencies that have complied with the presidential directive on the transition to the Treasury Single Account in view of the September 15, 2015 deadline.

“Idris, while expressing satisfaction with the level of compliance, affirmed that the Treasury Single Account has come to stay, that the compliance is an indication that Nigeria is at the threshold of a new era of transparent and accountable management of public finances.

“He thanked all the MDAs for their cooperation, assuring them and the general public of the preparedness to ensure a hitch-free implementation that will bring about the actualisation of the objective of the policy.

“At the close of business on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, almost all the MDAs, especially the revenue yielding ones, have all complied with the presidential directive to transit to the Treasury Single Account.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had recently given all the MDAs a September 15 deadline to comply with the Treasury Single Account directive.

The directive requires all the MDAs to pay all revenues and monies accruing to the government into a federal sub-treasury account maintained by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
