In a statement, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, however assured that government would not fail in its obligations to the citizens in terms pilgrimage regardless of the absence of government delegation.

Mr. Shehu said government would extend consular, medical and welfare support to all pilgrims as expected.

He said Mr. Buhari decided against a government delegation for procedural and economic reasons.

“The states can deal with that (meaning appointment of own delegations) but this year at the Centre, we will not be involved,” Mr. Shehu quoted the President as saying.
