Customs Seizes N50m Indian Hemp In Kebbi


The Nigeria Customs Service, Sokoto/ Kebbi/ Zamfara Area Command, on Thursday announced the seizure of Indian hemp and other contraband valued over N50 million.

The Controller, Mr Muhammad Kabir, who made the announcement at a news conference on Thursday in Sokoto, said all the items were seized at the Kamba border post in Kebbi.

He listed the goods to include 250 parcels of compressed and processed Indian hemp, 598 cartons of mosquitoes coils, eighteen bales of sports wears, 396 cartons of nescafe and other prohibited items.

Kabir stated further that an articulated vehicle with registration number, XR 911 MUSHIN, LAGOS, was impounded.

“Two other suspects, the driver and one other person, are also in our custody and we will dig further to get the real owners of the seized goods.

“This feat was recorded sequel to serious intelligence gathering and surveillance, coupled with inter-agency synergy.”

He asured that the command would continue to protect Nigeria’s borders under it, Nigeria becomes “smuggling-free and a better country for all” in line with the vision of the new administration under President Muhammadu Buhari.
