Video and Pictures – Eko Atlantic workers protest

Workers of Hitech, Seach Energy and ITB currently working on the Eko Atlantic city project took to the street Wednesday 15th July, 2015 protesting the working conditions and drastic short-change in the salaries. Happenings spoke to some of the workers who claim that as against the promise of $100 (N19, 895) per day promised by the management they have been receiving N900.00, they also said that there is discrimination in the way the local workers are treated compared to the foreign workers.

They claim the leaders of their union are corrupt and demand that their employer reviews the terms of agreement and also provide safety, security and an improved working condition since it’s a World project.

The Eko Atlantic city’s story started in 2003 when the Lagos State Government was in search of a permanent solution to protect Bar Beach in Victoria Island from the effects of severe coastal erosion, and to safeguard Victoria Island from the threat of flooding.
