THE Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, says a special status for Lagos State is achievable.
He said the Assembly would work with other members of the All Progressives Congress at the National Assembly to make a case for the state.
The issue, according to a statement on Tuesday, was brought to the floor of the Assembly by the Majority Leader, Sanai Agunbiade.
He explained the special status matter was part of the decision made during a lecture organised by the state Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to commemorate the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential Election, which was believed to have been won by Moshood Abiola.
The lawmaker said, “The major lecture of the day was delivered by Mr. Dele Alake, a former commissioner in the state. Mr. Femi Falana, a renowned human rights activist, also made a great presentation, but the main point of the speeches of the day was the resolution of the gathering that June 12 should be made a national democracy day as against May 29.”
The Speaker said, “I think it is achievable. The Lagos State House of Assembly will work with members of the All Progressives Congress at the National Assembly to make a case for Lagos State.”
Earlier, a letter was read on the floor of the House about the newly elected executive members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria.
The letter stated that the pioneer executive members were sworn in on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, and their names were read out.
